English Level 2 Project - Stage 3

SWOT is an acronym for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats, and it is an essential component of your project. The following links will help you to find out more about how to do it:

https://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newTMC_05.htm

The data you collected in the second stage will help to design this part of the project. The analysis can derive from customer reviews, opinions, or information from press articles, which will allow you to identify both internal aspects (strengths and weaknesses) and external aspects (opportunities and threats). Remember to mention your information sources.

It is mandatory to present an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses, while the opportunities and threats can be analysed optionally as well if you wish to aim at a higher qualification.

As in the previous stages, you can post the text on this blog.

You can provide your classmates with peer feedback by filling in this form:

SWOT ANALYSIS (Jekaterina, David)
Strengths:
1. Extensive Coverage: Provides access to Japan's high-speed Shinkansen, regional trains, and major railway lines, making long-distance travel convenient.
2. Cost Savings for Extensive Travel: Despite the price increase, it remains a good deal for tourists who plan to travel frequently across Japan.
3. Ease of Use: Once activated, it allows unlimited travel without needing to purchase separate tickets.
4. Official Support for Tourists: Designed specifically for international visitors, making it a well-known and widely recommended option.
5. Reliability & Efficiency: The Japan Rail system is known for punctuality, cleanliness, and high-speed connections.
Weaknesses:
1. It’s not for residents or local people. Is only available to foreign tourists, excluding residents and long-term visitors.
2. Too expensive. The recent price increase has made it less profitable for short trips. This may cause many tourists to think twice before paying these prices for this experience. They may even opt for competitors who may have more affordable prices.
3. Some tourists may find the regulations (eligibility, exchange process) confusing.
4. Limited Private Railway Access. Does not cover non-Japan Rail trains, subways, or buses, requiring additional tickets for certain routes.
5. Many delays, which are neither compensated nor resolved. Furthermore, customer service doesn't help customers in any way.
Opportunities:
1. Partnerships with Other Services: Collaborating with hotels, regional tourism boards, or local attractions could increase its appeal.
2. Special Packages & Discounts: Introducing seasonal promotions, discounts for groups, or customized passes for specific regions could attract more travelers.
3. Integration with Digital Solutions: A fully digital version of the pass (app-based with QR codes) could improve accessibility and user experience.
4. Expanding Regional Variants: More flexible pass options catering to specific regions (e.g., Kansai, Tohoku) can appeal to travelers with shorter itineraries.
Threats:
1. Budget airlines, buses, and rental cars may provide cheaper or more convenient alternatives for some travelers.
2. Fluctuating Exchange Rates – A stronger yen can make the pass more expensive for foreign tourists.
3. Decreasing Value Perception: The price increase may make fewer tourists opt for the pass, affecting sales.
4. Natural Disasters & Disruptions (Politic conflicts): Earthquakes, typhoons, or pandemics can impact train services and travel demand. Japan is a country that regularly experiences earthquakes, typhoons, and other natural disasters every year. Obviously, like any country in the world, it is also affected by war or conflict.
5. Government Policy Changes: Potential changes in visa policies or railway regulations could affect the pass’s accessibility
