know, SWOT is an acronym that stands for Strengths,
Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.
It is an essential component of the project and you can turn to the following
links to find out more about how to do it:
The data you collected in Part 2 will help to design
this part of the project. The analysis can derive from customer reviews, opinions
or information from press articles, where both internal aspects (strengths and
weaknesses) and external aspects (opportunities and threats) will be drawn
from. Remember to mention your information sources.
Last but not least, after videorecording your SWOT and uploading
it on Flipgrid, you should post the text on this blog, as in the previous stages.

SWOT analysis is made up of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
3.1. Strengths
In the last stage we collected a series of reviews where people gave their opinion on their visit to the Barcelona Zoo. Of all the comments we collected, we have extracted the strengths form the tripadvisor reviews, which mostly remark the same:
- They are trying to renew all the time: "NOMAD P" wrote saying -Second time coming here over 5 years and the zoo has changed so much!-
- Animal are well treated: "JOSEF P" wrote saying -The animals are presented in a very nice environment-
-The zoo infrastructure is very clean: "JELENA" wrote saying -It is big enough and very clean-
3.2. Weaknesses
Weaknesses is a particular part or quality of someone or something that is not good or effective.
We have analyzed that the three most talked points about things that can be improved in the zoo. These ones are the following:
-The animals are in small cages: "SUSANNAH B" wrote saying -The animals had so little space and looked miserable-
-The infrastructure is small: "TRIP 751336" wrote saying -The zoo was extremely small-
-The zoo is not well organized: "TKMAXX" wrote saying -The zoo it's really spaced out, animals didn't have enough space to run freely-
3.3.Opportunities
An opportunity is a simply positive, external factors that organizations or ventures can take advantage of, without being able to control.
From the outside perspective, the Barcelona zoo has many opportunities and the most secluded have been:
-Is the only zoo in Barcelona.
-Barcelona is a very family-friendly city.
-Barcelona is one of the most touristic cities of Europe.
3.4. Threats
A threats is a negative and external factor that could cause damage to a organization, venture, business,etc.
From the outside perspective, the Barcelona zoo has many threats and the most recollected ones have been:
-The zoo needs to adapt to the 21st Century.
Animalists don’t like this type of zoos
Everytime more people deserves freedom for animals.

Strengths:
The main strength of Hostal Pension San Ramon is that it is located in the centre of the city with transport facilities. It is very easy to move around the city and go to other tourist attractions.
Weaknesses:
The main weakness of this Hostal is their cleanliness.There were complaint about the basic faults in the services and facilities such as the room was not clean,no soap in the bathroom, it was very smelly, dirty bed sheets, etc.One of the comments even say that there were cockroaches and bugs in room.Many customers also complaint about the noisy environment.
Opportunities:
We can see from the strengths and weaknesses that this hotel still has a lot of space for development.For example, the superior location will continue to attract more tourists comes here and want to choose this hostel, so we can do more publicity to let tourists know the convenience of living here .Secondly, young tourist groups will prefer hotels with a strong sense of technology, so we can introduce robot waiters, which is a new trend and will also become the iconic service of this hostel.The weakness about the cleanliness is urgent to be solved as soon as possible.When this problem is solved, we can invite some professional experiencers, commentators or prestigious guides to experience the visit, and give the hotel some good reviews, which is conducive to improving the reputation .So that they can attract new consumers.
Threats:
There are two biggest threats. One is that small-scale operations and attempts to win at a low price may result in a shortage of funds, making it impossible to make some changes. For example, some old and disrepaired room roofs, re-renovation may require a lot of money. It is because there are many hostels of the same size but operating relatively well, becoming strong competitors. We have a smaller advantage over them. And because of the recent epidemic, hotels have been greatly affected, and the problem of capital flow may become the main threat.

SWOT analysis
Strengths:
-The good location and variety of the different apartments.
-The privacity and the safe environment.
-The great terraces and big spaces of the establishments.
-Office owning the apartments is near the establishments. Sarah from Egypt, and other customers are happy with that. “ The office that runs the apartment was just 1 building away, so that was very convenient and made me feel safe.”
Weaknesses:
-The lack of extra details in the different rooms, such as wine glasses on the kitchen, as an anonymous german customer complains; “The kitchen could do with a few more bits, there were no wine glasses eg, and only one bowl for serving.”
-The personal service and the check-in progress. Elizabeth from Australia complaints about it “Asked for a toaster twice but nothing arrived after 3 days even though 2 staff members said they would get one . Check in took nearly an hour “
-Bad management of the deposit of the cleaning services. Luke from the UK says “The €150 deposit which was promised to be back in my account in the following 2 days took about a week to get back into my account. communication was average, which i expected it to be a lot better when my issues involved a lot of money which should have been refunded earlier.”
Opportunities:
-It has different establishments around the city so they have more opportunities for people to stay at their apartment.
-They have similar players in the same market, most of the people don’t care where to stay overnight if it’s in conditions.
-Growing need of hotels in the location of Barcelona because it is very touristic.
Threats:
-There are a lot of tourist offers in Barcelona that means that there are other places to stay during the trip.
-People more and more travel at low cost, other accommodations will be occupied.
-Small hotels and B&B’s started to appear and invaded this market.
-Seasonal stays.

First of all, the most important strength, it’s the location, because the Sailor restaurant is located in La Barceloneta, which is a very touristic place and lots of people visit it everyday. Especially in summer it’s very easy to attract clients to the restaurant because of the weather: it’s hot, and people want to have a drink near to the beach, so they enter there, have a drink or an ice cream, and they usually end up having lunch or dinner too. The staff is also important, because two members of it are outside the restaurant encouraging people to enter, in order to attract more clients. So maybe someone that wasn’t expecting going to the restaurant ends up eating or drinking something there.
The weaknesses of this restaurant are mainly the client service and how they treat their customers. Almost all the bad reviews said something about this, especially referring to the owner who, they say, is really rude. Also, the value for money because as customers say, the prices are really high compared to the food they are offering. Also, another weakness would be the dirty restaurant, in general, (the tables, the kitchen,...) and, also, the fact that they don’t offer really good food to the clients.
On the other hand, the opportunities this restaurant has are, firstly, the growing need of better service. The employees should be more friendly with their customers in order to attract more clients. Also, they should make the restaurant seem cleaner because, normally, what people takes into account is the first impression of the restaurant, so, if this restaurant is cleaner, maybe they will attract more customers than if it is not. Lastly, they should lower their prices because, as customers say, they have exaggerated prices. For instance, a beer costs 5€ and the customers feel that this is a really exaggerated price.
Finally, the first threat of this restaurant is the actual situation we are facing nowadays with coronavirus, which is affecting tourism a lot. We don’t know how this will evolve during the following months, but what we can say is that the restaurant won’t have the same number of clients than it had the past years because of this situation. Another threat, are the bad reviews, which affect the restaurant a lot, because if you go to the internet 80% of the reviews (or more), are bad. So if someone is wondering to go the Sailor Restaurant and looks for it on the internet, they maybe choose another one, because of the reviews it has. Other threats are the prices of the competitors, that are lower and the quality of the products they offer which is not equal to the price.
INTERNAL
Regarding the internal strategic planning techniques of this business, we found out that the main strengths of the business are that the local has room enough to fit a lot of people inside which means that they are not going to have any struggle with the organization of the amount of people that comes to eat every day. Moreover, the menu provided has a wide variety of dishes to choose and a terrace that makes the business from the outside more attractive and that can to be enjoyed while you are having a drink or a meal. Furthermore, the location of this restaurant is an excellent, well-trafficked place which means that the probability of running out of clients is going to be very low. To finish with the main strengths of it, the staff that works there it is local which makes the restaurant create a community feel.
Making reference of the weaknesses of the restaurant, the prices are one of the biggest struggles that the clients are more aware and complain more about as they are quite high and, in consequence, the food has a bad quality for the price that they request. In addition, they have a high staff turnover and bad reputation on TripAdvisor, which makes them lose a lot of clients. Also, they have ignorance of the digital environment as it is reflected on their website, which is very poor and that they are not currently using food delivery apps/technology. Finally, their brand concept is quite underpowered, they should reinforced it by improving their lower aspects.
EXTERNAL
In terms of the external analysis, we have to have in mind two general parts, the opportunities and the threats. We are going to start analysing the opportunities and we have to mention that the main one we have found is the location of the business, that provides the restaurant with lots of tourists. We saw that the opinions on TripAdvisor talking about the location were positive by far. Related to the location and previously mentioned, we can say that the huge amount of visitors means fresh clients every single day, so even if they give a good or a bad experience, they are not going to run out of customers. The opening hours are also a key point, it doesn’t matter your schedule, they keep their kitchen opened almost all day until very night. We want to speak about the market opportunity too, just for being in Spain and belonging to the main sector of the country they already have a chance to succeed.
The headline of the threats is the intense competence from chain restaurants, that may succeed more easily. Then we could also talk about the seasonality, but since tourism has changed and we have tourist and visitors every season we don’t think this is an important threat. Among all the customers that go there only a little part post their reviews and the lack of new reviews may affect negatively this business. Being located in such crowded place has its advantages, but also its disadvantages, being one of them the saturation of the infrastructures. Finishing with the technology. we have seen that they don’t stand out for their marketing strategies, so that leaves them in a lower position versus the updated and renewed competence

(PART 1)
SWOT ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS: As a strength, from information extracted from the people comments on the hotel and their own website, we know that one of their strength is how they treat the client. Is such a cozy place where you will feel just comfortable.
OPPORTUNITY: As an opportunity we have their location. The place is very well located and that definitely helps to improve their brand. It is next to Joan Miró Park, Plaça d’Espanya (and a big shopping centre, Arenas) and Estació de Sants.

THREATS: Threats include anything that can negatively affect your business from the outside, such as supply chain problems, shifts in market requirements, or a shortage of recruits.
For example now, I’m sure that Chic and Basic didn’t thought anything about this threat that is Covid-19. At this moment, you can’t book any day until May but they are offering differents offers for the summer and try to recover this problem.
WEAKNESSES: Hotel chic&basic Velvet has some weaknesses although it has a good valoration in general. One of the most common complaints are that the room it is a little bit small, the facilities a little bit old, there are not soundproofing and more things.
So, in my opinion a small remodeling of the hotel of its older facilities, some painting and adding more modern material would be fine.
