English Level 2 Project - Stage 1

This project involves creating an improvement plan based on a study of an existing tourist product or service that is accessible for you to investigate firsthand, such as a hotel, a theme park, or a holiday package. You are required to analyse the product or service, identify its genuine shortcomings, and use these as a foundation to design your improvement plan. Students undertaking continuous assessment must complete this in pairs, whereas single-assessment students must work individually.

The presentation should last 12 minutes if delivered by two students, and 10 minutes for individual presentations. This will be followed by a question session with the panel of examiners, bringing the total time to 15 minutes. Visual aids are mandatory and may include PowerPoint, Prezi, etc.

Considering the nature of this project, you should select a product or service that is not particularly successful, as this will make designing an improvement plan both easier and more realistic. You may refer to https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ or similar websites to choose a product or service that, based on user opinions, demonstrates a need for enhancement. Take into account that you'll need to gather 80-100 customer reviews. Alternatively, you can select a product or service based on your personal experience, such as a hotel where you have worked or stayed. However, you are not permitted to opt for Port Aventura, Hotel W, Ryanair, Horta Maze, Carmel Bunkers, Parc Güell, or Tibidabo amusement park. Improvement plans for transport infrastructures are also inadvisable due to their complexity. Each project should focus on a different product or service.

Post your product or service description on this blog, citing all the sources of information you employed.

We (Queency and Irie), have chosen Hotel Namaskar, which is located in New Delhi (India).
According to some TripAdvisor reviews, this hotel is not particularly successful due to the cleanliness problems, the poor conditions of the rooms, and the noise from the street.
Also, some people who have visited the hotel, recommend to check different rooms before choosing because some of them don't have windows and to pick up rooms far away from the street.

We are Anna Bassols and Laia Rus and we have chosen the ALEGRIA Cabo De Gata Hotel, located in El Toyo, Almería, Spain.

The hotel has several floors. It features a spacious pool area, gardens, a buffet restaurant, and entertainment programs. Additionally, it offers direct access to the nearby beach and is designed for both families and couples.

Client Profile:
The hotel mainly attracts families, couples, and groups of friends looking for an affordable seaside holiday. Due to its buffet restaurant and entertainment programs, it is popular among tourists who prefer an all-inclusive experience. Many guests are Spanish, British, and French travelers seeking relaxation, although some reviews mention that service quality and facilities do not always meet expectations.

Price Rates:
The hotel is considered a budget to mid-range accommodation, with prices varying based on the season and board type (bed & breakfast, half board, full board, or all-inclusive). On average:
Low season: Around €50-70 per night for a standard room.
High season (summer months): Between €100-150 per night, depending on demand.

Seasonality:
ALEGRIA Cabo De Gata operates seasonally, with peak months from June to September when beach tourism is at its highest. During the off-season, from October to April, occupancy drops significantly, and some services may be limited. Winter travelers are often retirees or local visitors looking for a quiet getaway.

Why We Chose This Hotel:
We choose this hotel because it receives numerous negative reviews, particularly regarding the cleanliness of common areas, maintenance of facilities, and overall guest experience. We believe that by addressing these key issues, we can develop a comprehensive improvement plan to significantly enhance the hotel's quality and reputation.

The Japan Rail Pass (JR Pass) is a tourist pass for unlimited travel on Japan Railways (JR) trains for 7, 14, or 21 days, available only to foreign tourists.

🚆 What’s included?
✅ Shinkansen (high-speed trains) – Hikari, Sakura, Kodama (❌ Nozomi & Mizuho).
✅ JR regional & intercity trains (Limited Express, Express, Local).
✅ Some JR buses and the JR ferry to Miyajima Island (Hiroshima).

📍 Key Routes & Cost Comparison
🟢 Tokyo – Kyoto – Osaka → Regular: ~30,000 yen (~190€), JR Pass: 50,000 yen (~315€) → ❌ Not worth it.
🟢 Tokyo – Hiroshima – Kyoto – Osaka → Regular: ~50,000 yen (~315€), JR Pass: 50,000 yen (~315€) → ✅ Worth it for multiple cities.
🟢 Tokyo – Sapporo / Kyushu → Long journeys where the JR Pass may be useful.

🤔 Why is the JR Pass now a bad deal?
1️⃣ Too expensive – Used to save money, but now separate tickets are often cheaper.
2️⃣ No fastest trains – Nozomi (2h 15m) is not included, only Hikari (2h 40m).
3️⃣ Booking hassle – Requires a physical pass, online seat reservations are limited.
4️⃣ No short-term option – 7-day minimum makes it impractical for short trips.

📌 The JR Pass has lost value for most tourists. It only pays off for long-distance travel, while for standard routes, buying separate tickets is cheaper.

We chose the Japan Rail Pass (JR Pass) for our study because it is a key travel product in Japan, but after a steep price increase in 2023, it has become less profitable. Our study analyzes:

1️⃣ Economic impact
2️⃣ Decreased efficiency
3️⃣ Tourism impact
We explore how the JR Pass can become profitable and convenient again.

RAZZMATAZZ

🎶✨
What is Razzmatazz?

Razzmatazz is one of the most famous clubs in Barcelona, located in the Poblenou area. It has different rooms with various music styles and is known for its lively atmosphere. Many locals and tourists go there to enjoy the nightlife.
Why We Chose It

Even though Razzmatazz is a popular club, it has many bad reviews, especially about security, staff behavior, and unfair treatment. For our project, we decided to look into these issues.

Located near the iconic church La Sagrada Familia in the heart of Barcelona, Trabucaire is a tapas restaurant that offers a variety of traditional Spanish dishes.

Although it appears inviting at first look, it has become known as one of the worst tapas restaurants in the city. Despite the atmosphere and optimal location, the restaurant’s main goal is to attract tourists rather than provide quality food or service. The prices are significantly higher than other nearby restaurants, and the dishes frequently fail to meet the standards of authentic Spanish cuisine. Many customers feel dissatisfied, having paid more than they should for below-average food. To sum up, Trabucaire is considered a tourist trap.

For our final project, we chose Trabucaire due to its poor reputation and clear need for improvement. Negative reviews highlight overpriced food, low-quality dishes, and poor customer service, making it an ideal case study. Its strategic location and existing customer flow provide an opportunity to turn it into a successful business with the right improvements. Our goal is to analyze customer feedback, identify key issues, and propose solutions to enhance Trabucaire’s reputation, service quality, and overall dining experience.

We (Queency and Irie), have chosen Hotel Namaskar in New Delhi, India.

This is a 2-star hotel located in the centre of the capital city, which can be a great option for the guests for visiting some of the top tourist attractions of New Delhi such as: India Gate (4km), the famous mosque Jama Masjid (2km) or the Chadni Chowk traditional market (2km).

This hotel has a total of 21 rooms which can be standard for 2 persons or family rooms with a capacity of 4 people. It offers several services: Laundry and ironing, WIFI, meeting rooms, transportation (car rental), gym, room services and spa.
It also has a luggage storage room,24 hours reception, cleaning services and air conditioning.

Although it doesn't have a big variety of restaurant services, there are some establishments nearby which offer traditional Indian food as well as international cuisine.

The reason why we chose Namaskar Hotel is because according to some TripAdvisor reviews, the hotel has some inconveniences such as cleanliness problems, the claustrophobic and antique state of the rooms, the noise from outside and the lack of windows in some rooms.
